When deciding how much paint to buy, first measure the length and height of all of your walls. Multiply the length times the height to get the square footage of your walls. Add them together to get the total square footage that you will need to cover. At the store read the paint can to determine how many gallons you will need. A gallon usually covers around 300 square feet. Buy a little extra to make fixing the inevitable scrapes and nicks in the future easier. But, when doing your own house painting, don’t go for the cheapest paint. Painting is a lot of work. It’s a big investment in your time, so get a quality paint that will last. Higher quality paints have more pigment and less water. JPlace painting knows that they will cover more area per gallon and will hold up for better use.

Reface or Replace?

Cabinet Refacing means putting a new face on your cabinets and since we are re-cycling the exisiting cabinets, this is the  most economical way to upgrade and update your kitchen. We can do this without all of the problems that come with a major remodeling job. In just a few working days you can have that kitchen of your dreams. We start by removing all of the old and tired looking doors, drawer fronts & drawer boxes. Then we work on the surface of your cabinets. We carefully inspect the wood to determine exactly what repairs are needed. After repairing any problems, we cover the exposed cabinet frames with a whole new layer of veneer that is the same color of the doors you have chosen for your kitchen design style. After all framework and exterior of cabinets have been refaced, we install brand new components such as, doors, drawer boxes, drawer fronts, gliders for drawers, hinges and handles/knobs. By the time we’ve finished our magic, your cabinets will look just as good if not better than new. By simply refacing your old kitchen cabinets, you can have a kitchen that looks like new for a lot less money and aggravation that comes with installing brand new kitchen cabinets.

Another Painting Tip!

JPlace Painting is not only dedicated to providing the best services to customers that choose us for their commercial or residential painting needs, but also to assisting those that still prefer to perform such painting services themselves.

One of the reasons that many Do-It-Yourself paint jobs end up looking dull or listless once they are dry is that the painter fails to use a primer before applying the first coat of paint. Primer is actually one of the most important parts of the process. It keeps stains or imperfections from the deeper layers of the wall from showing through your paint, helps your paint to spread evenly to the wall without significant blisters and increases the time between paint jobs. It also helps the layer of paint appear much more bright and vibrant.

If you are painting with a lighter color over a darker color, one of the ways that you can make sure you hide the underlying color is by mixing a small amount of the paint with the primer before applying it. This is only possible if both your paint and primer are of the same type (latex or oil). You do not need much paint in the mix but you should be able to tell that the primer is shifting towards the paint color.
